Parent Testimonials

The following are testimonials written by parents after their child completed our 12 week program:

I can only describe the program as it pertains to Michael as a "total awakening experience" He is so much more aware of what is happening to him, in and around him. This is a child who feels so good about himself, this is a very confident Michael. He is doing so well in school and he is truly enjoying his classroom experience. His teacher cannot believe the transformation from June to September (something we should all be proud of). He's a faster worker.
Thank you to Andrea, Matt and the Achievement & Learning Centre staff. We will never forget what you have done for us. M.J. McGee - Child, age 8

Everything is going well. I have to say there has been an enormous improvement in Alice's ability to retain information. Alice had an English test, and her mark was 78% and 75% in history, both tests were written in her classroom, she did not feel the need to go to the resource room. Also, when Alice was in elementary school, up to grade 6, she always got good comments and "win-its" awards for her creative writing. After grade 6 nothing was happening until this year. She has joined the writers club at her high school and she is getting very good feedback on her poems. (Alice had joined that club either in grade nine or last year and dropped out). Alice feels happy and I think this is just the beginning. Parent - Child, age 15

I must admit we were both skeptical when we began this 12 week tour. But his study habits began to change and his homework time became shorter and shorter. We checked with the school, are his assignments done? Yes, and the quality and content has increased. Then came a 90% in geometry an A- in math, we are now beginning to believe that if this is the direction that the program is taking him then lead on!
Derick's concentration has improved significantly, he has a much higher level of tolerance to application and performs fairly consistently at higher grade levels than in the past. It looks like he is well on his way to a great education! Thanks for everything,
J. & D. Mitrovic - Child, age 12

As a result of the program I have noticed an improvement in his: ability to reason through situations, better fine motor skills, ability to make choices about his behavior, ability to see consequences of actions, less impulsive. W. Hall - Child, age 9

Kaede has a diagnosis of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). The last three years, we have been doing all sorts of therapies for her but, The Learning Mastery Program is the only one that parents have to carry on so profoundly and constantly. Therefore, we learn not only about the program itself but how our child learns; although we thought we knew everything about our child, she often surprised us by doing much better than we expected. At the same time, we learn what area the child struggles in and when she started to comprehend it, we clearly see and enjoy her progress. We'll continue this remarkable program from now on at home. The distance between Burlington and London is great, (but) as a parent, I haven't had even one moment to regret my decision on this program. Thank you so very much for your effort and help. Parent - Child, Age 8

Task orientation seems to be where I think the greatest area of improvement is. Getting to a task, doing it without complaining and finishing it. Focus, concentration and better self-esteem are other areas of improvement…I know there is a lot of improvement. Thanks again for all your help and kindness throughout the last few months. You guys are great! Parent - Child, Age 10

According to the initial assessment, Stefan's ability was above peers (in) most of the areas, plus he wasn't going to school. Therefore, we didn't have any specific academic concerns, except the fact that he has a language delay. Since he started this program the biggest difference was that his interests during his leisure time has become so much on drills and games requiring the concentration skills, letters, numbers, calculations, problem solving, measurement, etc. As soon as the grade one started, he surprised us a great deal with how well he could read. There was no doubt that he had a great start for his grade one and I am willing to keep helping him in many different areas by continuing the program at home. Thank you VERY much for your help. Parent - Child, Age 6

Successes seen as a result of the program: Increased self-confidence, A desire to succeed at school, Stays on task in class, No phone calls from the school re: behavior problems, Starts to do homework when he comes home from school (no one is there to make him do it), Joins school teams, Participating more in class activities, Enjoying school for the first time, Seems to be getting along with more children, Seems to be less stressed out when it comes to school, More enthusiastic when doing extra-curricular activities due to increased self confidence.
He has just been diagnosed with a learning disability in the language area. Given this (learning program) he is now reading more - even when he doesn't need to.
I think for the first time he actually believes he can do anything he needs to do in all areas if his life.

My daughter was a very good student until grade five. By grade six her marks started to drop and it was down hill from then until grade ten. My daughter was diagnosed with O.C.D - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, she developed the disorder when she was 9 and kept it to herself until she was in grade nine. The disorder caused her the inability to concentrate and it impaired her memory. I enrolled her in the Learning and Mastery program this past summer and now I can see a significant difference.
Improvements: Learning is easier and faster, Less time doing homework, Able to retain information, Grades have improved greatly, Confidence and happiness are a great result of all the above. Parent - Child, age15

Colin's memory has improved tremendously. His teacher says he can remember four words in a row when he is tested. She also says his fine motor movements, especially spelling tracing, has improved tremendously. His pronunciation is better. He is starting to read, YEAH! Great program. I thoroughly recommend it. Thanks Again!! Parent - Child, Age 14

Brett took the course over the summer. His main interest in taking the course was to improve and help in his English course at high school. As his next English class is not until February it has been difficult to assess the results of the Learning Mastery program. I do believe that the Reading and Spelling Mastery program has been of benefit as his word identification was well below age level and I am quite confident it has been significantly increased. Again time will tell if Brett starts reading for enjoyment, or if his school projects will be easier for him to complete this year.
Brett was thrilled about his assessment, and the improvement he saw. Before he even had the results he knew he had done much better. Brett said, "it was a lot easier this time" with a big grin. What a wonderful personal boost. Brett talked us into letting him take this program and his determination to complete it and the homework that went with it never wavered. He has enjoyed the course and that makes it worth while in every sense. S. Nymeyer - Child, age 15

I have noticed better focus, attention but specifically I have noticed my child being more task-oriented. Before we began this program it was difficult for Elena to begin projects, etc. Now she has the confidence to start and finish the project quickly and easily. Other benefits are more subtle and hard to express at this time, but I know that we have all benefited from the learning program. Thanks, Matt, Andrea and Sue. You guys are great! Keep up the great work! Parent - Child, Age 16

Before starting the Learning Mastery program, Brittney was not liking school much. She could not read at all and spelling words was extremely difficult. Since starting this program, school is fun, reading is awesome. Brittney now gets 7/7 on weekly spelling tests. She would have never done that before. We are so pleased with Brittney's progress and look forward to seeing more improvements. E.Griffin - Child, Age 7

The area of greatest success for Shawn was concentration. Before the program, Shawn could not write notes during class, paid little attention to the teacher and had a nightly battle to finish homework. About half way through the program, Shawn's teacher noticed a marked improvement in quality and quantity of work done in class. Shawn was more attentive and needed fewer reminders to stay on task. Tests were starting to be completed.
At home, Shawn is listening and reasoning better. Homework is being completed independently and homework material is actually making it into his bookbag. Test scores continue to improve and Shawn is becoming a calmer, more confident child.
M.Levesque - Child, Age 13

One of the most significant successes I saw was the ability of completing his work at school. Therefore the amount of homework to complete at home was reduced drastically .
Dylan's memory has improved for tests and comprehension. Both of these qualities also attributed to him getting his work done on time.
Dylan liked the program and never complained about coming, and the routine ensured that the "home training" was not an issue.
B.Sutherland - Child, Age 12

Max says that he wishes all school was like this program. This is very high praise coming from him and I echo his sentiments. I have seen a great improvement in Max's memory and have been blown away by the things he can do. I expect anyone would benefit from the program- adults too! M.MacPherson - Child, Age13

Tyler has grown during his time in the learning program . He is now beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. He comes home from school now and usually gets his homework out right away. He would sit all evening trying to work through his homework before, and now it takes very little time if he has any homework at all. Tyler can work more on his own with a little help coming from us. I see him trying to use "other ways" to problem solve if confronted with a situation where the obvious isn't possible. His self-esteem is higher and he realizes that he really can do better and that he now understands better; He is slower to anger and helps out now often with chores around the house. Sometimes he asks us what he can do to help!!! M.Stanley - Child, Age 12

Connor's over all self-image has improved greatly. Connor was very self-conscious about his reading,or lack of it, now his reading has improved to where he tries to read more and sometimes even asks if he can read an extra page. Thank-you Matt!
S.McPhail - Child, Age 9

I've seen an excellent improvement in Peter's work. Peter's self confidence has been boosted higher, his comprehension is coming along and his concentration has come a long way. Peter is able to focus on problems now, but most of all he enjoyed doing the homework and I enjoyed participating in my child's well being and education. The teachers (Andrea and Mat) are PHENOMENAL. I have never seen two people care more about their work or their students. There are just not enough words to let you know what amazing people I think they are and how wonderful I think the program is. I would recommend this program to anyone who needs help. Thank you Andrea!! D.Sempecos - Child, Age 7

Aleisha had excellent compensating skills for her deficit in auditory analysis, but has achieved incredible gains none the less. Aleisha works at a much quicker pace now and rarely works "too hard" anymore. When studying for her Gr.6 test, she comments often "I've studied enough to know it all". Aleisha's potential to achieve all her life's goals will be so much easier to reach with her new auditory processing skills and ability. Aleisha has loved this program and is so proud of her success, and how well deserved too! Thank you Andrea. Together you and Aliesha gave 200%. M.Micheal - Child, Age 12

Melinda has felt her gains in this program in the classroom setting and her confidence has increased dramatically in terms of understanding her teacher's "lecture style" teaching in Gr.8. She has achieved huge gains in auditory analysis and logic and reasoning which will help her realize her academic goals. Melinda enjoyed the challenge and her progress in the learning program immensely. She was driven to complete the entire book and almost did, excepting two areas. Melinda and Matt were an excellent team and he helped to motivate her to the best of her ability. Melinda so deserves her success and demonstrated such discipline in the face of constant time battles. We thank you Matt! M.Micheal - Child, Age 14
